Before And After Care Program (CARES)

Saint Patrick School offers a before and after school care program from 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on regularly scheduled school days. CARES closes promptly at 5:30 p.m.; parents are requested to have a local backup in case of delay.

CARES, which stands for Children Are Receiving Extended Service, offers professional care, supervision, recreation and enrichment activities for children enrolled at the school.

This program allows children to experience arts and craft projects, games and recreation. Students in grades 3-8 also have time set aside to complete homework. CARES strives to provide individual attention, security, consistency and caring treatment for all children. CARES offers a number of age-appropriate classroom settings where students will be able to enjoy after school supervision with classmates of similar ages.

CARES is staffed by an experienced director, assisted by additional staff based on enrollment. Fees are the sole support of the CARES program, as it is not subsidized by the school or parish.

Saint Patrick School students are automatically eligible and signed up for CARES on a drop-in basis; no additional paperwork necessary. Bills go out at the end of the month via backpack and can be returned the same way.

Those interested in using CARES on a regular, long-term basis should notify the school and fill out this form.

To use CARES as a drop-in, simply write a note to your child’s homeroom teacher telling them they will be going to CARES instead of the normal routine. No advanced notice necessary.

CARES can be reached at (717) 249-4826, ext. 209 or thecker@spscarlisle.org.

CARES rates are as follows:

  • Drop-in rates are for families who intend to use the program on an as-needed basis, with no commitment. You pay for only the block of time the child attends CARES.
  • Weekly rates are for families making the commitment to use CARES on a long-term basis. You pay for the week, whether or not the child attends each day. This commitment is for the entire school year.

Blue Ribbon School

Saint Patrick School was identified in 2007 as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Only 50 private schools, nationally, are selected every year. Our selection reflects the commitment of our students and their families; our faculty and staff; and the support of the entire parish. Of more than 138,000 schools in the United States, just over 6,000 have received this honor over the past 28 years.

The U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are either high performing or have improved student achievement to high levels, especially among disadvantaged students. The program is part of a larger Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about best school leadership and teaching practices.
