Meet Susan
Hello, I'm Susan, and I'd like to share a bit about myself. I've been happily married for over four decades to an incredible person who served our country as a military officer for 30 years. In 2006, we retired and decided to make Carlisle our home, where we became a part of the St. Pat's parish community.
Educational Background and Career
My professional journey has been diverse. I have experience as an elementary education teacher, a behavior therapy TSS (Therapeutic Support Staff), and an office administrator. My academic background includes a degree in developmental psychology and early childhood education, with graduate work focused on teaching reading.
Family and Hobbies
Family is everything to me. We have three grown children and three wonderful grandkids. Besides spending quality time with family and friends, I love exploring new places through travel, one continent at a time. Reading and reviewing books, gardening, and the pleasures of cooking and baking also fill my days. Staying active with walking/race challenges and doing puzzles keeps me engaged.
Volunteering with WIN
After retiring, I was settling into a routine when the pandemic hit. As we emerged from those challenging times, I felt a strong desire to get involved again, especially with the learning gaps that students were facing. When the call for volunteers came, I knew it was the right opportunity for me.
This upcoming year marks my third as a WIN volunteer, and what I love most about this program is seeing the progress and excitement of the students as they grow.
There's nothing quite like hearing a child transition from "I hate reading" to proudly declaring, "Let me read this story to you." It's equally rewarding to see another child enthusiastically exclaim, "I'm going to Bosler to get my own library card and then straight to the mystery books first."
I look forward to another rewarding year of working with our outstanding students.
