Have you ever wondered how teachers spend their summers? Our dedicated 6th-grade teachers, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Lynch immersed themselves in community service in West Virginia. Mrs. Brown spent a week as a service volunteer, learning to demolish and rebuild roofs at Nazareth Farm while chaperoning high school students. Mrs. Lynch, on her third summer, dedicated two weeks to supporting service volunteers at Bethlehem Farm, engaging in diverse tasks such as gardening, household management, and manual labor. Both farms offer family weeks, promoting togetherness and service.

At Saint Patrick School, we take pride in nurturing young minds and fostering a passion for learning. The story of Corbin Beish, an aspiring innovator and graduate of our school, is a testament to the incredible opportunities that can arise when determination meets education. Corbin's journey into the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is a remarkable tale that showcases the power of curiosity and dedication.
The Spark of Opportunity It all began with the efforts of Mrs. Jill Brown, one of our dedicated Middle School Teachers. Recognizing Corbin's potential, Mrs. Brown entered his name into the National Youth Leadership Forum WorldStride Explore STEM Program, an immersive experience held at the prestigious Villanova University. Little did Corbin know that this opportunity would open doors to a world of innovation, exploration, and hands-on learning.
A Journey into STEM Corbin, now a freshman at Trinity High School, embraced the chance to join fellow future innovators, engineers, doctors, and investigators. Over six transformative days, he immersed himself in the world of STEM, creating new friendships, and expanding his horizons.
Robotics: Building Dreams Corbin's main focus during the program was Robotics, a field that has captivated the minds of young and old alike. Guided by passionate instructors, he learned the intricate art of building and coding robots, experiencing the thrill of turning concepts into tangible creations.
A Glimpse into the Future The program offered more than just robotics; Corbin also delved into other fascinating subjects, such as forensics and medicine. These hands-on experiences not only ignited his curiosity but also deepened his understanding of the diverse possibilities that STEM encompasses.
Meeting a Space Pioneer One of the program's most memorable moments occurred on its concluding day. Corbin had the privilege of meeting a true space pioneer, Astronaut Dr. Donald Thomas. Dr. Thomas, who had embarked on four missions into outer space between 1994 and 1997, shared his awe-inspiring journey with the young learners. As a tangible symbol of his experiences, Dr. Thomas brought a piece of Mars for everyone to observe and touch, further igniting the flames of curiosity and inspiration.
Corbin's story is a reflection of the impact that dedicated educators, supportive communities, and transformative opportunities can have on a young individual's life. At Saint Patrick School, we celebrate Corbin's achievements and are excited to see how his journey into STEM will shape the future.
Join Us in Celebrating Curiosity Corbin's journey is a reminder that every student possesses untapped potential waiting to be discovered. We invite you to be part of our mission to nurture these young minds and provide them with opportunities that will spark a lifelong love for learning.
At Saint Patrick School, we believe in empowering our students to be the architects of their own future, and their participation in the Inaugural Solar Energy Challenge is a testament to their creativity, determination, and commitment to making a positive impact on the world.
Taking on the Challenge In April, two teams of our remarkable students embarked on a journey to the Inaugural Solar Energy Challenge in State College, PA. The challenge was clear: design and construct a structure that harnessed the power of solar energy to pump water to a height of 6 inches. Our teams, the Solar Sisters and the Sun Boys, stood ready to showcase their ingenuity and dedication.
Solar Sisters Illuminate the Way The Solar Sisters, comprised of Sarah Dabrowski, Hayden Hall, Claire Grindle, and Anna Sheaffer, exhibited exceptional teamwork and innovation. Their project transcended the competition's requirements, utilizing solar power to pump water to an impoverished community in Venezuela. Their solution not only showcased technical prowess but also a compassionate heart.
Rising Stars: Sun Boys The Sun Boys, consisting of Landon Dunn, Tyler Rice, Dominic Scavone, Aaron Stegmaier, and Matthew White, demonstrated a profound understanding of renewable energy systems. Their design and construction skills were evident in their project, which aimed to harness the sun's energy for a brighter tomorrow.
Guided by Excellence Behind every successful team are dedicated coaches. Mrs. Lynch and Mr. Raines guided our students with passion and expertise, igniting the spark of innovation and fostering their growth throughout the competition.
From State to National The Solar Sisters' remarkable performance didn't stop at the state level. After clinching victory in the Penn State Solar Challenge, they earned the opportunity to represent not only Saint Patrick School but also the community at the National KidWind Competition in Boulder, Colorado. This prestigious competition, held from May 14th to May 17th, showcased their prowess in renewable energy design and construction.
A Journey of Achievement Throughout the competition, the Solar Sisters conquered various challenges, including the Instant Challenge, Solar Pumping, and Quizbowl. Their dedication and positive spirit caught the attention of judges and fellow participants alike. Their politeness, teamwork, and unwavering enthusiasm set them apart and earned them the respect and admiration of all.
Shining Bright: The Solar Sisters Triumph During their journey to the 2023 KidWind Nationals, the Solar Sisters left an indelible mark. Their exceptional teamwork, knowledge, and presentation earned them the coveted Rookie of the Year award. This accolade was a reflection of their outstanding performance as a first-year team, highlighting their commitment to learning, innovation, and collaboration.
At Saint Patrick School, we celebrate our students' achievements as they embody our commitment to excellence, innovation, and community engagement. The Solar Energy Challenge has showcased the brilliance and potential of our students, leaving us excited for the future they are helping to shape.
